What to Expect in an Overhead Crane Inspection

Our crane inspection work routine exceeds the standard provided by the CMAA in their Specification #78. Typically, our inspections can be done with one technician per crane. They can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours per crane depending on size, service class, and accessibility. Our inspectors are experienced and carry overhead crane inspection and maintenance certification recognized by OSHA.

An overhead crane inspection from Krueger Manufacturing Services meets compliance requirements of OSHA 1910.179 and ANSI / ASME B30 and identifies issues that may cause future disruption to operations. The inspection includes:

An introduction with your team. What issues might you having with the crane(s)?
Securing the area as needed.
Running the cranes to determine that the controls and limits are working properly.
Use of a man-lift to allow inspection and preventative maintenance on the crane. The inspector will have pendant / controller with him and have control of the crane through the entire inspection. There will be a safety lockout of electricity to the crane periodically through the inspection.
Inspection of the runway, rails, and power collection system.
Completion of an inspection report as recommended by the CMAA Specification # 78.
Post inspection review with customer contact to review the health of the crane, any areas of concern, and recommended corrective action.
Post-inspection review with our site contact to communicate areas of concern. The inspection report will be left with the contact for your records. An inspection tag will be left on the pendant / controller communicating the inspection date and when the next inspection is due.
